A pair of Bald Eagles earlier this year had decided to nest on the North side of the river, not far from the Highway 78 bridge. Another surprising exception arose when the eagle pair produced not the usual two eggs, but three! The first eaglet was seen in April. The second in May. Two little heads could seen bobbing up and down above the rim of the nest. The leaves on the branches obscured the nest so keeping track of each eaglet was impossible. In June it was discovered there was actually three eaglets---and they were growing fast! By mid-June they were almost full grown. By the end of June all three were flying off into "the wild blue yonder" and away. Our very own "national symbols"---produced and sent out to the world from right here in Prophetstown. The next time you see an eagle overhead maybe you can feel some "home grown" pride---it might be one of "ours"! (Copy by Mike Dunbar--Photo by Dean Huisingh of Fulton)
